Summary:
Jordan is a young man activly being recruited by the Cobras, a violent local gang. Desprate, his mother buys a house in another community, hoping to save her son from gang life. While she prepares for a move, Jordan plans to run away from home in order to stay with his fellow gang members. In order to gain favor with the Cobras, Jordan steals a family heirloom in order to make some quick money. The heirloom he steals is his grandfather's gold pocketwatch, which once belonged to the last family member to have been a slave. Feeling somewhat guilty, Jordon makes his way home with the watch but as he passes under a bridge he finds himself transported in time to the early ninteenth century without the gold pocket watch. Unable to find a way home Jordon must live the life of a slave on a cotton plantation. Wary of the whip, he struggles to find the gold watch in hopes it is his ticket home. Throughout his journy Jordon develops a healthy respect for the sacrafices and risks his ancestors took to make the life he leads possible. Will it be enough to turn him away from the gang?
